About This Place

John Howie Steak, situated in the heart of Bellevue, WA, is a distinguished steakhouse and fine dining restaurant that sets a high standard for American steak culture with a sophisticated twist. This exceptional establishment masterfully blends the art of classic steakhouse fare with contemporary culinary flair, offering an impressive selection of premium steaks, seafood, and thoughtfully crafted sides that tantalize the senses.

From the moment you step inside John Howie Steak, you are enveloped in an ambiance that is both elegantly refined and warmly inviting—perfect for a special night out or memorable celebration. Rich, ambient lighting and plush furnishings create an intimate setting, while attentive and polished service makes every diner feel truly valued.

The menu is a celebration of indulgence and quality, beginning with enticing starters such as the velvety Lobster Bisque, enriched with Atlantic lobster and a delicate caviar cream, or the house-favorite Deviled Eggs that balance creamy textures with a hint of spice. Vegetables are elevated to artful side dishes like the crispy yet tender Fried Brussels Sprouts, accented with a refreshing lemon caper vinaigrette and garlic chips, or the Butter Braised Mushrooms that showcase a deep, earthy richness perfect for complementing red meat.

At the core of John Howie Steak's acclaim are their stellar steaks—culinary jewels like the incredibly tender Japanese Wagyu A5 Rib Eye, renowned for its buttery marbling and melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the robustly flavored Mishima Reserve American Wagyu Long Bone Rib Eye, which exemplifies the pinnacle of American premium beef. The USDA Prime Filet Mignon Medallions Oscar Style deliver a decadent surf-and-turf experience, adorned with fresh seafood accents that beautifully contrast the meaty depth.

Diners also rave about the thoughtful preparations seen in dishes like the Sea Bass, pan-roasted to perfection and served over a cannellini bean ragout with house-cured bacon, adding layers of smoky and savory notes, or the succulent Roasted Jidori Chicken stuffed with herbed ricotta and accented by wild mushroom sauce.

Finish your meal with exquisitely rich desserts such as the creamy, caramelized Crème Brulée, the indulgent Bananas Foster, or the decadent Molten Chocolate Cake, each providing a lush, sweet finale to a flawlessly executed dining experience.

Reviewers consistently praise John Howie Steak for its meticulous attention to detail and superior flavor profiles. Diana F. highlights the impeccable service and the perfect balance between elegance and comfort, describing her meal as “phenomenal” with steaks cooked to perfection. Angela Genzale’s experience underscores the exceptional wine pairings and the artful cooking mastered in their medium-rare “plus” filet mignon, enhanced by unique salts that elevate each bite. Carl Lunak’s party delighted in the rare opportunity to sample American, Australian, and Japanese Wagyu, comparing the subtle yet distinct flavor differences—a real treat for steak connoisseurs.

Though some guests, like Sartaj Judge, find certain items on the menu to be on the pricier side, most agree that the quality and atmosphere offer genuine value, transforming any visit into a noteworthy occasion. Even when the restaurant buzzes with activity, as Dior Ella notes, the staff’s professionalism strives to maintain a smooth and enjoyable experience.

For those seeking an extraordinary steakhouse experience where steak is an art form, complemented by refined wines, inventive cocktails, and impeccable service, John Howie Steak in Bellevue stands as a stellar destination that promises to thrill both your palate and your senses.

John Howie Steakhouse is truly a top-tier dining experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable—attentive, professional, and welcoming. The ambiance is elegant yet comfortable, perfect for a special evening out. The steaks were absolutely phenomenal—cooked to perfection, incredibly flavorful, and tender. The sides and appetizers were just as impressive, with high-quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation. The wine selection is extensive and pairs beautifully with the menu. Overall, it’s clear that John Howie Steakhouse holds itself to the highest standards. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want an unforgettable meal, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere, the food, the service- all top notch!!! We started with ‘8 days in the desert’ wine- if you like a full bodied red wine this is the one to get. It paired perfectly with our filet mignon. We chose the medium rare “plus” - a bit of pink but not too rare. We enjoyed trying out the different salts that only enhanced the flavors. The meat was expertly cooked and our sides of asparagus and wild mushrooms was a feast for the taste buds! Even the complimentary shrimp appetizer was delicious. Worth every penny. Will definitely go back again!

Amazing selection of excellent steaks. We especially enjoyed the small portions of wagu from America, Australia, and Japan which allowed us to try them side by side and experience the delicious differences. Everyone in our party commented on the outstanding food, and experience.

Pretty sure I did a review already. First time left a lasting, pleasant impression. Next few times w/ or w/o guests was just ordinary. This last one, though. We knew it wasn’t going to be packed but surprisingly it was and glad we made reservations +/- 20 minutes into it. Checked-in. Was told to wait, we were +/- 5 minutes early. Told to wait at the bar. Now, we usually would oblige but this whole wait at our bar feels so cliché. Cute, but not when I’m on a mission for a quick bite before takeoff. I came for a table, not a tequila prelude. Fast fwd to being ushered to our table. Now this is how you do a glow-up in guest service! The entire dining room experience felt orchestrated. Every staff: host, server and smile perfectly in tune like a well-rehearsed symphony. Not a single note rushed, just smooth, elevated hospitality all around. Food and service here were a science. We were updated and informed in a timely manner. As soon as our table side service was ready, it was a science. Precision, timing and grace under pressure. We were on a tight schedule but they handled it like a well-oiled lab experiment: table-side service perfectly executed, meal served hot, rest boxed and bagged before we could even glance at the clock. No fluff, no fuss, just flawless choreography from first bite to final bill. Now that’s efficiency served with elegance.

Great ambiance but definitely overpriced overall. Lobster mashed potatoes were great but Mac and cheese was very dry and mediocre at best. Steak was pretty good.

We visited John Howie Steak in Bellevue to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and overall it was a lovely experience. The ambience, service, and overall vibe were excellent. Our server was attentive and professional throughout the evening. The appetizers were delicious. I especially enjoyed the prawn cocktail and the deviled eggs—both were flavorful and well prepared. I ordered a gin and tonic, which initially came out very strong, but the staff promptly replaced it with a milder one without any hesitation, which I truly appreciated. The only downside of our evening was the main course. I ordered the Jidori chicken, and unfortunately, it was overcooked and heavily drenched in butter, to the point where the butter completely overpowered all other flavors. The chicken was placed on a cutlet that seemed burnt, leaving a bitter aftertaste, which made the dish quite disappointing. Everything else was wonderful, but because of the main course, I’m giving this place 4 stars instead of 5.
